Comedy Writing Highlights

  1. Always carry a writing notebook with you – constantly jot down ideas, situations, etc. It will be invaluable for you as your writing progresses
  2. Write and finish a sketch, don’t leave it without an ending, or halfway through without completing – bad habits die hard
  3. If you find that the sketch isn’t funny all the way through- back up to the part where it stops being funny, and take another path with the sketch, another track is sometimes exactly what it will need.
  4. Watch other comedy examples – sketch, stand-up, sitcoms. Note the things you find funniest and look for patterns
  5. Find other people that have a similar sense of humor and write together.
  6. Find someone else on Sketchl.tv and see if you can start up a virtual comedy group
  7. Take a class at a local comedy theater, or theater group
